Known for her fearless vocal style and songcraft, Ruby Boots blends the brash energy of rock & roll with melodic pop craftsmanship and a distinctive country edge to forge an unmistakable voice. Born Rebecca Louise "Bex" Chilcott on October 20, 1981, in Perth, Australia, she split her teenage years between her mother’s and father’s households. She dropped out of school at 14 and left home at 16. At 19 she departed Perth, supporting herself for several years by harvesting pearls. Later she attended TAFE Western Australia, where she pursued studies in music business. After years of singing only for pleasure, she started composing her own material and issued her self-released debut EP, Ruby Boots, in 2010. The follow-up EP, At Last, appeared on the Walking Horse imprint in 2011, the year she was first honored as Best Country Music Act at the Western Australian Music Industry Awards—an accolade she would claim annually through 2015.

Following one more independent EP, she secured a contract with the Australian division of the roots-oriented Lost Highway Records, which released her debut full-length album, Solitude, in 2015; the record included guest vocals by Vikki Thorn of the Waifs. Solitude earned widespread acclaim across Australia, prompting her to relocate to the United States in 2016 and settle in Nashville, Tennessee, drawn by its community of active musicians. In 2017 she entered new recording agreements with Island Records for Australia and New Zealand and with the “insurgent country” imprint Bloodshot Records for North America and Western Europe. Her second album, Don’t Talk About It, was tracked in Dallas, Texas, with the Texas Gentlemen providing accompaniment and reached stores via Bloodshot in February 2018.
