Johnnie & Joe

In 1957 Johnnylouise Richardson and Joe Rivers joined forces to issue several singles on Chess. Their standout release, “Over the Mountain, Across the Sea,” climbed to number three on the R&B charts and reached number eight on the pop side. That single proved to be one of only two Top 10 R&B entries they achieved; the other, “My Baby’s Gone,” stopped at #15 and brought their run of hits to a close.
