Biography
Late in 2005, three Frenchmen—Quentin Delafon, Dorian Dumont, and Michael Szpiner—launched the Teenagers, an irreverent and humorous outfit of scraggly neo-new wave indie rockers. Their start was entirely tongue-in-cheek: the trio set up a MySpace profile for a band that did not exist and mined the incoming comments for lyric ideas, including those that surfaced on “Fuck Nicole.” Merok Records picked up the group and issued two of its 2007 singles, “Homecoming” (backed with “Fuck Nicole”) and “Starlett Johansson,” the latter a characteristically playful ode to actress Scarlett Johansson. In early 2008 the XL label put out Reality Check, the band’s debut album.
