Biography
In 1958, a New York doo wop ensemble first drew widespread notice when its standout single "Little Star" climbed to the top of both the R&B and pop charts. The white group was fronted by Vito Picone alongside Arthur Venosa, Frank Tardogono, Carmen Romano, and James Moschella. Each participant had already sung with earlier combos prior to the members assembling as the Elegants. Over the course of the '50s, '60s, and well into the '70s they issued further material on Hull, United Artists, Limelight, Photo, IPG, and Laurie, yet none of those later efforts matched the initial success even though several strong ballads emerged from the sessions. Two additional configurations also appeared in the mid-'60s under the names Vito Picone with the Elegants and Vito & the Elegants.
