Biography
Originating in Oxford, the English indie rock collective Jonquil took shape when multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Hugo Manuel, then aged twenty, sought to expand an early bedroom recording endeavor into a full ensemble. Drawing on influences that range from the Microphones to Joan Baez, the group fuses the swirling cacophony of freak folk acts such as Animal Collective and Skygreen Leopards with the indie pop sensibilities associated with Modest Mouse and Fleet Foxes. Their debut album, Sunny Casinos, appeared in 2006, followed by Lions in 2008. One Hundred Suns arrived in 2010.
