Originating from Abbotsford, British Columbia, the approachable yet introspective Canadian vocalist and composer Joshua Hyslop draws upon the work of Iron & Wine, Ryan Adams, Wilco, and Bon Iver while shaping an evocative, reflective fusion of moody chamber pop and pastoral indie folk in the spirit of folk-pop fixtures such as the Lumineers and Mumford & Sons. A succession of steadily rising Nettwerk releases propelled him to millions of streams across the second half of the 2010s, paving the way for the arrival of his 2020 album Ash & Stone.

After issuing his first EP, Cold Wind, through Nettwerk Records in 2011, Hyslop unveiled his debut studio album, the widely praised Where the Mountain Meets the Valley, the next year and spent the following two years touring extensively. He returned in 2015 with the EP Living & Dying alongside his second full-length, In Deepest Blue. By the release of his third album, Echos, in 2018, his compassionate songwriting had cultivated a devoted audience that streamed his material into the millions. Directing his attention inward at the start of the following decade, he first offered the Embers EP before delivering the intimate Ash & Stone LP in early 2020.
