Biography
This Spanish organist produced organ compositions that feature toccatas and tientos, together with sacred pieces such as a mass, a magnificat, a mass section, and songs. Manuscripts of Cabanilles’s music circulated far and wide because of its strong reputation, possibly reaching numerous European venues, while his fluent organ technique generated so many requests that he received invitations to perform in several French cathedrals. He was viewed as the foremost Spanish organist of his era. Although his fame extended internationally, the character of his writing stayed distinctly Spanish and continued to embody Renaissance principles.
