Biography
Known for her mastery of the hammered dulcimer and flute, Karen Ashbrook developed her abilities through street performances spanning Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Relocating to Washington, D.C. in 1983, she joined the chamber folk trio Ceoltoiri, whose recordings include Silver Apples of the Moon and Celtic Lace. She also belongs to the Jewish ensemble King David's Harp. Ashbrook later secured a solo contract with Maggie's Music and issued the albums Knock on the Door and Hills of Erin. In addition, she authored the book Playing the Hammered Dulcimer in the Irish Tradition.
