More than a quarter century ago, William Jackson played a foundational role in creating the ensemble Ossian before embarking on an independent path as composer and recording artist. His output encompasses six solo albums plus eight further recordings made during his time with Ossian. Early in 1999 this acclaimed Scottish multi-instrumentalist triumphed in a national contest intended to identify a new anthem for his country. The winning piece, “Land of Light,” subsequently appeared on a CD issued several months afterward and received an airing that summer at the Queen Mother’s centenary birthday observances. Jackson’s catalogue also contains “Inchcolm,” “St. Mungo,” and “The Wellpark Suite,” the commissioned “A Scottish Island” written for the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, and a range of television scores including those for the History Channel and the BBC. After attending the London Guildhall School of Music, he has concentrated on music therapy for children living with autism and cerebral palsy. He likewise leads workshops in the discipline and takes part in the International Harp Therapy Program.
