Norwegian-born Kate Havnevik, now based in London, initially pursued guitar studies in jazz and classical realms during her formative period, yet those ambitions shifted when she joined a punk band at age 14. From that point forward she surveyed an extensive range of musical approaches before concentrating on guitar, piano, and melodica as her principal instruments. Airplay of one of her demos on the widely influential Morning Becomes Eclectic program on L.A.'s KCRW-FM helped cultivate a devoted following. More recently she collaborated with electronic music poster boys Moby, Röyksopp, and Tom Middleton, and she also wrote the song "Grace" expressly for the second season finale of the popular television drama Grey's Anatomy, which aired in May 2006. Her first full-length solo release, Melankton, surfaced in fall 2006 on her own Continentica Records imprint and received an early reissue the next year through Universal Republic.
