Joakim Ijäs, the Helsinki-born DJ and producer known as Kiki and long resident in Berlin, first appeared on record in 2001 with the single “Gas126,” built around a Blondie sample, after nearly ten years of club work that included sets at key Berlin rooms such as Tresor. His debut 12-inch came out on Ellen Allien’s Bpitch Control and began an extended relationship with the label that eventually produced roughly a dozen further singles, the two albums Run with Me (2004) and Kaiku (2009), and a volume in the Boogybytes mix series by the close of the decade. Joint productions with Silversurfer were completed across 2003 and 2004, though just one of them appeared on Bpitch. His recordings have touched on virtually every corner of dance music, moving through electro and minimal techno into the buoyant rhythms and luminous hooks of Italo disco and even the muted palettes of IDM.
