Biography
Kish Mauve, the English synth-based duo operating in the same '80s-inspired electro-pop territory as Ladyhawke and Dragonette, first gained notice through their songwriting partnership with Australian pop princess Kylie Minogue. The project originated as a three-piece girl band that issued a self-titled EP in 2005. Lead singer Mima Stilwell subsequently joined producer Jim Eliot to launch a new venture shaped by the sounds of Kate Bush, early Eurythmics, and Kraftwerk. While developing their debut album with Dave Bascombe (Depeche Mode), they enlisted guitarist James Sedwards and drummer Fraser Robb on a temporary basis, then issued their first single, "Modern Love," the following year. Placements in the U.S. drama Dirty Sexy Money, a Kate Moss Rimmel advert, and a Sony Ericsson phone campaign led to the 2009 release of their initial album, Black Heart, on their own YNYS Recordings label. The pair has since established themselves as songwriters for other acts including Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Alphabeat, and Operator Please, yet their highest-profile work remains the lead singles they wrote for Kylie Minogue’s 2007 album X ("2 Hearts") and 2010 album Aphrodite ("All The Lovers"). A second album is slated to arrive in 2011.
