Biography
London-based Australian EDM duo Monarchy came together through the partnership of producer Andrew Armstrong and singer Ra Black. Their fusion of electro-pop, new wave, and '80s synth pop drew frequent comparisons to outfits such as Hot Chip and Simian Mobile Disco, leading to the February 2010 release of debut single "Gold in the Fire." Mercury Records promptly offered the pair a deal, yet dropped them within months, pushing back completion of their debut album. That project, first known under the name Monarchy, finally appeared in July 2011 via 100% Records and carried the title Around the Sun. New singles, live performances, and remixes for acts including Lady Gaga, Fyfe Dangerfield, and Ellie Goulding kept the duo active in the years that followed. Their catalog further comprises the EPs Almost Human (2014) and RelVision (2015) alongside the albums Abnocto (2015) and Mid:Night (2019).
