Biography
Initially presenting themselves without revealed identities, the pair operated under the names Client A and Client B upon signing as the first act to Andy Fletcher’s Toast Hawaii label, founded by the Depeche Mode member. Their opening release, “Price of Love,” captured the mechanical, detached atmosphere typical of eighties productions while riding an insistently memorable hook. The follow-up single, “Rock and Roll Machine,” shifted toward a groove carrying fewer pop traits and highlighting the more disreputable facets of their character. Across 2003 the group appeared at scattered European engagements and spun vintage electro selections in clubs throughout the U.K. They issued City during September 2004. Client E entered the lineup for the subsequent album, Heartland, which switched to Metropolis for distribution. Authority surfaced in 2014 under a revised configuration consisting of Client A, now identified as Kate Holmes, and Client N, Nicole Thomas.
