From the outskirts of hip-hop emerged the teenage sensation Bishop Nehru, a rapper and beatmaker who had already exhausted the monikers Kelz Scott and Kile Kanvas upon reaching fifteen years old. Hailing from Rockland County in New York, where he was born Markel Scott, he crafted jazz-infused tracks under Kelz and hip-hop oriented productions as Kile, sharing them all on the Odd Future forums that marked his initial discovery. Hot 97, the New York City hip-hop radio outlet, labeled him a talent worth monitoring, while Nas hailed him as the forthcoming sound of the industry. At just fifteen, he unveiled the Nehruvia mixtape and promptly embarked on a European tour to promote it. During his London stop, he supported MF Doom on stage, prompting the veteran to propose a joint project. Their effort materialized as NehruvianDoom, which Lex Records put out in 2014. Bishop also inked a deal that year with Nas' Mass Appeal Records and released BrILLiant Youth, a joint EP alongside Dizzy Wright. Subsequent projects included Nehruvia: The Nehruvian EP, MAGIC: 19, along with Emperor Nehru's New Groove. Elevators (Act I & II) came forth in 2018 as his fourth output across four years, drawing inspiration from the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds and incorporating beats from Kaytranada and MF DOOM.
