Beast Coast

Beast Coast operates as an American hip-hop supergroup assembled from New York rap outfits Pro Era, Flatbush Zombies, and the Underachievers. Although the collective took shape in 2012, its first official studio album, Escape from New York, appeared only in May 2019.

Drawing together artists from Brooklyn’s Flatbush and Bed-Stuy districts, the project united Pro Era members Joey Badass, Kirk Knight, CJ Fly, Nyck Caution, Aaron Rose, Chuck Strangers, Dessy Hinds, Dirty Sanchez, J.A.B., Jakk the Rhymer, Powers Pleasant, Rokamouth, and the late Capital STEEZ with Flatbush Zombies’ Meechy Darko, Zombie Juice, and Erick Arc Elliot plus Underachievers representatives AK the Savior and Issa Gold. Many of these figures had known one another since childhood through neighborhood gatherings or attendance at the same high schools, later forming separate crews that each cultivated substantial audiences. After extended joint touring and frequent cross-collaborations on individual projects, the full roster entered the studio to formalize their alliance. Three singles—“Left Hand,” “Coast/Clear,” and “Snow in the Stadium”—surfaced in 2019 and were included on Escape from New York when the album arrived that May.
