One of Austria's leading punk acts, Kitty in a Casket fuse high-octane pop-punk with a strong psychobilly undercurrent. The band originated in 2008 when vocalist Kitty Casket and guitarist Billy the Bat joined forces; these two have remained the sole unchanging members across the group's history. Bassist Marc Van Dark and drummer Mike Mean Machine completed the original lineup. By 2009 Crazy Love Records had taken notice, issuing the debut full-length Horror Express that same year. Shortly afterward the quartet followed with the four-track EP Hallo Wien, whose compact-disc version added the promotional clip for the Horror Express track "Bride of the Monster."

The group next moved to Wolverine Records, which put out their sophomore album Back to Thrill in 2011. At that juncture Marc Van Dark had already departed, leaving Slappin' Suspender to handle bass duties, while Scott "Hitman" Noben replaced Mike Mean Machine behind the kit. In 2012 the ensemble grew to five members with the arrival of guitarist Todd Flash; bassist duties shifted once more as Tom Mooner succeeded Slappin' Suspender, and Mike Mean Machine reclaimed the drum stool after Scott "Hitman" Noben exited. Better Than Hell Records partnered with the band for the 2013 release Bittersweet, which marked their first domestic issue in the United States through Cobraside distribution. To mark the occasion Kitty in a Casket undertook an inaugural American trek comprising 27 concerts over five weeks.

Their fourth long-player, Kiss and Hell, appeared in 2015 on the Rodeostar/SPV imprint, coinciding with Max Van Angst's arrival on drums following Mike Mean Machine's second departure. Later that year the musicians returned to the United States for additional live dates before crossing to the United Kingdom. Another bass change took place in 2016 when Marc Maniac replaced Tom Mooner. The resulting fifth album, Rise, surfaced in 2017.
