Biography
Combining the rhythmic drive of vintage rockabilly with the charged intensity and macabre visuals long associated with the Misfits, Detroit’s the Koffin Kats demonstrate that high-powered psychobilly remains vital across the American Midwest. Vic Victor, who supplies lead vocals and upright bass, joined forces with guitarist and vocalist Tommy Koffin in 2003 to launch the band after both had spent time immersed in the Motor City punk community and decided to explore the ominous, twang-heavy sound of their punk-rockabilly hybrid. Over the years the lineup has seen multiple drummers pass through, with Damian Detroit logging the longest stretch between 2003 and 2005; E-Ball Walls, who performed with the group briefly in 2003, returned to the drum chair in 2007. The trio issued its debut album, titled simply The Koffin Kats, in 2004 and immediately began touring in support. They have sustained a demanding road schedule ever since, playing frequent dates on the West Coast as well as nearer to home, and have followed the first record with two additional full-length releases: Inhumane in 2005 and Straying from the Pack in 2006.
