Biography
Born to the legendary reggae singer Barrington Levy, Krishane absorbed the world of music long before entering it. Growing up in Manchester, Jamaica, he traveled alongside his father during tours and observed his mother negotiating with industry executives. While attending school he revealed an innate vocal gift, entering the choir and appearing in talent competitions throughout the island; before reaching his mid-teens he also performed as a member of the boy band the Teardrops.
Intent on establishing an independent identity, Krishane relocated to London in 2011 at seventeen and began collaborating with producer Bless Beats. His recording debut arrived in 2013 when he contributed vocals to Mastiksoul’s track “Riot.” Later that year he affiliated with the production company 1 2 One, an association that secured him an early-2014 contract with Atlantic. Observers frequently likened his boyish appearance, soaring soulful tenor, and command of dance routines to Michael Jackson and Usher, both of whom he has cited as inspirations. Early predictions of stardom attracted numerous accomplished producers eager to shape material for his first album. The lead single, the buoyant “Drunk and Incapable” featuring fellow Atlantic artist Melissa Steel, blended R&B, digital reggae, and pop elements before its October 2014 release, which carried it to number 27 on the U.K. singles chart.
