Reggae vocalist Serani first accumulated individual chart successes in 2008 via the track “Doh,” although his production involvement in the industry actually dates to 2001, when he established the Daseca collective alongside siblings David and Craig Harrisingh. A Kingston native born Craig Marsh, Serani had maintained a longstanding friendship with the Harrisingh brothers, and together they launched Daseca—an acronym drawn from two letters of each participant’s name—with the goal of crafting material for leading dancehall performers. Their Chaka Chaka and Clear riddims gained sufficient traction that Elephant Man recruited the team in 2005, resulting in the Jamaican chart-topping single “Willie Bounce.” The following year the same producers oversaw Sean Paul’s global smash “We Be Burnin’” as well as Tony Matterhorn’s dancehall staple “Dutty Wine.” Two years afterward, Serani launched his independent career with “Doh,” which included a guest appearance by Daseca protégé Bugle. That same year also brought the single “She Loves Me” and the Japan-exclusive collection The Future, which compiled the singer’s earliest recordings. At the start of 2009 the track “No Games” appeared; by year’s end it served as the title song for Serani’s first full-length album.
