Biography
Alan Sutherland operated as the Brooklyn sonic collagist Land of the Loops after earlier stints in short-lived groups prompted him to explore quirky electronica, sparked by a sampler his parents gave him upon college graduation. He cut the cassettes Straight Out of Milner and Percival for Slabco, then achieved underground success with the single "Multi-Family Garage Sale," which later appeared in a Miller Genuine Draft commercial; his debut full-length Bundle of Joy arrived on Up in 1996 to strong acclaim and was followed a year later by the remix EP Refried Treats. Sutherland returned in 1999 with the EP Hurry Up and Wait, after which Puttering About a Small Land appeared in mid-2000.
