Biography
Larry Marshall possesses an energetic, persuasive delivery and profound soulfulness as a singer, yet his recognition remains limited primarily to dedicated followers of reggae. In addition to excelling as a romantic balladeer of high caliber, he demonstrates equal skill in delivering message-driven and roots-oriented material. The release of his single "Nanny Goat" marked one of the initial shifts indicating reggae’s departure from its rocksteady foundations. His debut recording took place at Studio One during the mid-1960s, a track subsequently covered by Clancy Eccles. Engagements followed with the Prince Buster and Top Deck imprints before Marshall revisited Studio One and achieved prominence there. Over time, he assumed engineering duties alongside his vocal contributions at the studio. Subsequent releases have appeared on multiple labels, including Heartbeat and King’s Music.
