Las Rosas

Brooklyn garage-psych trio Las Rosas came together in 2013, founded by guitarist Jose Boyer, bassist Jose Aybar, and drummer Christopher Lauderdale. Prior to that, Boyer had already gained traction through his time in the Matador act Harlem and through his work alongside Lauderdale in Daytona. Aybar, for his part, had been performing with Wild Yaks. Drawing on the strongest elements from those earlier projects, the three musicians arrived at a distinctive mix of hooky garage pop, Rolling Stones-derived strut, and sunny off-kilter psychedelia. Burger Records spotted the group immediately and issued their five-song cassette Flower in the Sun in late 2013; the following year the trio handled their own release of the “Ms. America”/“Sensitive Flower” 7". Still refining their sound through live performances and with Aybar continuing his commitments to Wild Yaks, the band needed additional time to complete their debut album. Eventually they aligned with the Brooklyn indie Ernest Jenning Record Co., which put out Everyone Gets Exactly What They Want in March 2017. Moving swiftly afterward, the musicians headed back into studios in Nashville and New Paltz, New York that summer to record a follow-up. The resulting breakup-inspired Shadow by Your Side appeared on Brooklyn’s Greenway Records in May of 2018.
