Biography
In response to renewed fascination with post-punk and shoegaze groups including New Order, the Jesus and Mary Chain, and especially the Cure, Laurence "Lol" Tolhurst, previously of the Cure, joined his wife Cynthia Levinson and Dayton Borders to launch Levinhurst during the opening years of the 2000s. Their debut effort, the 2004 album Perfect Life, delivered an electro-pop sound that evoked the hazy nocturnal textures of Tolhurst’s earlier band while echoing the detached, precise aesthetic of Imogen Heap and Kraftwerk. Levinhurst then signed with What Are Records? to release their reflective follow-up, 2007’s House by the Sea, which included guitarist Eric Bradley after he entered the Levinhurst lineup in 2005.
