Lisa LeBlanc, an Acadian Canadian singer-songwriter, grew up in the modest French-speaking community of Rosarieville, New Brunswick. She composed the material for her self-titled debut album partly at l'École Nationale de la Chanson in her hometown and partly during an extended year in Montreal. Describing her sound as “trash folk,” LeBlanc blends raw Acadian folk traditions with garage rock energy, delivering it through forceful guitar work and a commanding vocal presence. Early club and coffeehouse appearances across New Brunswick and Quebec earned her notice for her physically intense stage manner, which soon translated into bookings on Canadian festival stages and several international events. Issued in March 2013 by Bonsound and produced by Louis-Jean Cormier, the album quickly drew widespread notice from broadcasters, reviewers, and listeners alike; it reached number three on the French charts, entered the Billboard Top 200, and surpassed 40,000 units sold, securing gold certification in Canada.
