Biography
In 2015 the alternative and indie pop trio Little Cub assembled in Dorking, Surrey, even though their sonic identity took shape chiefly across South-East London. Dominic Gore, Duncan Tootill and Ady Acolatse make up the group. Gore and Tootill crossed paths by happenstance and immediately discovered a shared enthusiasm for LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy, his DFA Records label, and such foundational artists as New Order and Aphex Twin. Gore later encountered Acolatse at a club night inside London’s infamous Fabric. The three began trading musical sketches and concepts, and Little Cub emerged from those exchanges.
Drawing on an array of influences, the band’s music fuses sleek noir-pop with ethereal atmospherics rooted in multiple electronic traditions, while the lyrics move through love, loss and introspection. Once they had assembled a set of sturdy songs, the musicians started playing shows in and around London. Their first single, “Breathing Space,” appeared in summer 2016, earned widespread praise and soon attracted the notice of Domino Records. Later that year the label released the trio’s debut offering, Loveless, which drew further admiration for its woozy, sparse and lush electronics together with the soaring yet soft chorus melody. Little Cub issued their first full-length album, Still Life, in April 2017 via Domino Records.
