Born on 16 April 1963 in Canoga Park, California, Jimmy Osmond entered the world as the youngest sibling in the Osmonds family. He surfaced without warning as a pre-teen idol during 1972, riding the crest of Osmondmania while still carrying the plump, endearing features that helped define his early image. That same year he claimed the top spot on the UK Christmas charts with the singalong single “Long Haired Lover From Liverpool,” thereby becoming—at nine years old—the youngest solo act to reach number one in Britain up to that point. Over the following two years he revisited the charts with the earlier Lavern Baker favorite “Tweedle Dee” and Eddie Hodges’s “I’m Gonna Knock On Your Door.” Although his British moment proved short-lived, it was overshadowed by far greater fan hysteria in Japan, where he was affectionately dubbed “Jimmy Boy.” Once the hits dried up and he reached adulthood, he built a lasting career as an entrepreneur and rock impresario.
