Biography
Lolo Zouaï functions as a singer, songwriter, and producer who splits her residence between New York and Los Angeles. Atmospheric electronics, smoky R&B, and hip-hop threads run through her polished yet personal compositions. The 2017 single “High Highs to Low Lows” became her breakthrough viral track and opened doors to joint work with H.E.R. and Blood Orange. Although she continued to prioritize standalone releases, the three-song EP Beautiful Lies surfaced in 2020. In 2022 the single “Give Me a Kiss” and the album PLAYGIRL appeared in tandem with a run of dates supporting Dua Lipa.
Born in Paris, Zouaï spent her childhood in San Francisco’s Sunset District, absorbing rap alongside the Arabic music of her Algerian father. Piano lessons occupied her early years, and she performed regularly at her French elementary school. After high-school graduation the family moved to Nashville, where she enrolled for one semester of college-level songwriting study. Unhappy with the coursework, she withdrew, returned briefly to San Francisco, recorded for the first time in Paris, revisited Nashville, and ultimately followed her mother to New York City. A string of unsuccessful collaborations and sessions preceded the 2017 viral success of “High Highs to Low Lows.” That same year she co-wrote material for H.E.R.’s self-titled debut album, which later received the Grammy for Best R&B Album.
In 2018 she joined producer Stelios for the singles “Blue,” “Desert Rose,” and “Brooklyn Love,” each of which accumulated more than a million streams before December. October brought a support tour with Alina Baraz, followed by her own European headline dates to close the year. January 2019 saw the double A-side single “Ocean Beach,” pairing “Lose Myself” with “Jade,” the latter featuring Blood Orange. Another headlining tour preceded the 2020 release of Beautiful Lies. After issuing the singles “Galipette” and “Give Me a Kiss,” she opened for Dua Lipa in early 2022 and then unveiled her second full-length album, PLAYGIRL.
