Biography
British trio Long Tall Texans blend psychobilly, rockabilly, and eclectic punk into an exuberant sound. The group came together in Brighton during 1985, with bassist and vocalist Mark Carew, guitarist Mark "Boggles" Denman, and drummer Anthony Theodotou comprising the original lineup. They first cultivated an audience through high-energy performances at the city’s rockabilly club The Klub Foot. Before issuing a full album, the band contributed the tracks “900 Miles” and “One More Time” to the regional collection Sounds of the Southern Scene. Their debut long-player, Sodbusters, appeared on Razor Records in 1987; the record received Radio 1 exposure and expanded their reach through European touring. Additional well-received releases followed, among them the 1989 albums Five Beans in the Wheel and Saturnalia.
Singing to the Moon arrived in 1991 and displayed broader stylistic range through excursions into blues and reggae. By the middle of the decade Denman had stepped away from live duties while still supplying material to the group. Guitarist Garry Castleman and saxophonist Paul Mumford took his place on stage and appeared on the 1994 album Aces and Eights. Although new recordings became less frequent in the ensuing ten years, the band maintained a steady touring schedule. After Mumford departed, the 2005 release Adventures of the Long Tall Texans marked their return to the studio. Castleman subsequently handed guitar duties to Matt Windler, and in 2014 the ensemble issued its seventh studio album, Devil Made Us Do It.
