Boshra Al Saadi and Nicole Greco, serving as dual vocalist/guitarists, established Looker in New York City's Lower East Side during 2003. The project originated as lighthearted amusement shared by these lifelong friends until bassist/vocalist A.J. Lambert and drummer/vocalist Robbie Overbey joined, shifting the endeavor to a committed quartet. Their sound merged the bittersweet qualities of '60s girl group pop with arty proto-new wave textures and the grit plus attitude of edgy punk rock. This combination quickly stirred interest and captivated critics throughout the fiercely competitive neighborhood club circuit, which generated multiple touring opportunities both locally and overseas even prior to completing the 2007 debut album Born Too Late. Lacking any record company backing, since the band self-released the LP, Looker persisted as a well-kept secret familiar solely to indie rock cognoscenti, yet the group continued forward by issuing several singles throughout 2008 before the fall launch of its sophomore full-length, Born in the Desert.
