Biography
Los Natas originated in Buenos Aires, Argentina, essentially placing the continent’s second-largest nation on the international stoner-rock landscape through their own efforts. Assembled in the mid-1990s, guitarist and vocalist Sergio Chotsourian, bassist Miguel Fernandez, and drummer Walter Broide revealed a pronounced Kyuss fixation on the band’s 1996 debut Delmar, an album performed almost entirely in Spanish. Later efforts, notably 1999’s Ciudad de Brahman and 2002’s Corsario Negro, which introduced bassist Gonzalo Villagra, moved beyond that familiar template by weaving in textures drawn from space rock, psychedelia, and jazz, then fusing these strands at altitudes rarely attained below the equator. Remaining restless, the trio pursued Indian-music explorations on the 2003 release Toba Trance, distributing the material across three extended pieces that together spanned sixty minutes.
