Biography
Formed in 1999 at Goshen College in Indiana, Lotus brought together brothers Jesse Miller on bass and sampler with Luke Miller on guitar and keyboards, alongside Steve Clemens on drums, Chuck Morris on percussion, and Mike Rempel on guitar, merging jam-band traditions with electronic dance rock. Their first release, the concert document Vibes, was captured in fall 2001 and issued independently in 2002. A follow-up live set, Germination, appeared on Harmonized Records in May 2003. Nomad, the ensemble’s initial studio effort, surfaced in September 2004. Another studio album, The Strength of Weak Ties, arrived in April 2006. The group then joined the SCI Fidelity roster for its third live outing, the double-disc Escaping Sargasso Sea, which emerged in May 2007. Five months afterward, the remix collection Copy/Paste/Repeat: Lotus Remixed was unveiled in November 2007. Roughly twelve months later came Hammerstrike, the band’s third studio album. In March 2023 percussionist Chuck Morris and his son disappeared while kayaking in Arkansas; twenty-four days after authorities were notified, both were recovered deceased on April 9, 2023, with Morris aged 46.
