Biography
Specializing in Afro-Latin, Latin, and Afro-Cuban idioms, Conte works as a bandleader, conductor, composer, and arranger. His sixteen-piece Afro-Cuban jazz ensemble of the late 1980s drew little notice and scant documentation from Latin jazz and jazz labels alike. Only after Buena Vista Social Club and comparable projects revived broader curiosity in Cuban music did opportunities expand, leading Rounder Records to issue his Cuban Dreams album in 2000.
