Biography
Before turning 21, violinist Luka Faulisi secured a contract with the prominent Sony Classical imprint. His first album appeared in 2023.
Born in Paris in 2002 as Luka Faulisi Ostović to parents of Italian, French, and Serbian descent, he grew up in a household steeped in music. His father worked as both flutist and flute-maker, while his mother, an avid listener, attended a recital by violinist Maxim Vengerov and pianist Itamar Golan during her pregnancy; two decades afterward, Golan would accompany Faulisi on his debut recording. At three he began violin lessons, first studying in Paris under Larissa Kolos before enrolling at the Maastricht Conservatory in the Netherlands with Boris Belkin as his instructor.
Further training took him to Italy’s Lorenzo Perosi Academy in Biella, where Pavel Berman not only taught him but also championed his career; flutist Emmanuel Pahud likewise expressed admiration. Competitive successes at the Arthur Grumiaux International Violin Competition in Brussels and the Concours Vatelot Rampal raised his profile.
Major engagements followed, both as concerto soloist and recitalist, including appearances with the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse at the Halle aux Grains in Aix-en-Provence, the Szczecin Philharmonic in Poland, and the Filarmonica di Torino. He also performed in Belgrade alongside the Radio Television Serbia Symphony Orchestra. Plans for 2023 encompassed a recital at the 30th Festival du Salon de Provence and a debut with Finland’s Oulu Symphony Orchestra.
That same year saw the release of his debut Sony Classical album, Aria, which presented operatic arias arranged for violin and piano; several of those settings, drawn from Verdi’s La Traviata, originated with Faulisi himself.
