Biography
Kyoko Baertsoen and Walter Hilhorst first crossed paths during their university years in Belgium in the early 1990s. The pair initially recorded under the name Calyx, yet switched to Lunascape toward the end of the decade after discovering a London drum’n’bass outfit already using the former title. Baertsoen spent a short period in 1997 lending her voice to Hooverphonic before returning to the Lunascape project. A recording contract arrived in 1998, followed by a gradual release of singles across subsequent years, although their debut album did not surface until 2002 owing to complications with the label. Reflecting Seyelence introduced the duo’s atmospheric style, merging trip-hop, moody pop, and electronic layers beneath Baertsoen’s lush vocal delivery. The following year, Rhys Fulber of Delerium included a version of the Seyelence song “Tears From the Moon” on his Conjure One endeavor. Lunascape resurfaced with Mindstalking in 2004, which reached American listeners one year afterward. Beyond their studio work, the group supplied music to the IMAX productions Haunted Castle and SOS Planet.
