The emo-punk outfit Lync, based in Olympia, Washington, featured singer and guitarist Sam Jayne, bassist James Bertram, and drummer Dave Schneider in its lineup. The group came together in 1992 and quickly made its recorded debut via the Magic Pail label on the single "Pigeons." Its follow-up single, "Two Feet in Front," surfaced on K Records as part of that imprint’s International Pop Underground series. K also put out Lync’s sole full-length album, These Are Not Fall Colors, which appeared in 1994; the band disbanded shortly afterward. A 1997 collection of singles titled Remembering the Fireballs [Part 8] was assembled after the group’s dissolution. In 1996 Jayne launched the solo vehicle Love as Laughter, whose first album carried the title The Greks Bring Gifts. He then issued the 1997 album #1 U.S.A. under the abbreviated name L.A.L., bringing back former Lync drummer Schneider and adding bassist Jessica Espeleta to complete the roster.
