New Jersey rapper-producer Mach-Hommy has earned cult status through an unyielding work rate, consistently high-caliber output, and deliberate distance from the spotlight. His lyrics arrive in dense, coiled passages studded with deadpan punchlines that trace the social and political currents of his Haitian roots; he frequently delivers verses in Kreyol while a folded Haitian flag serves as a bandana that shields his face in nearly every public image. Fiercely guarding his catalog, he bars lyric platforms from posting transcriptions and prices many physical releases at several hundred or even several thousand dollars, keeping numerous projects off streaming platforms altogether. Even so, a loyal audience coalesced around low-profile drops such as 2016’s H.B.O. (Haitian Body Odor) and 2017’s The G.A.T…, both of which attained cult-classic standing, while joint efforts alongside Earl Sweatshirt, DJ Muggs, and the Alchemist further raised his visibility. The 2021 release Pray for Haiti marked his broadest exposure and highest critical regard to that point, followed later the same year by the concise yet thematically aligned Balens Cho (Hot Candles). Three years later he returned with the solo album #RICHAXXHAITIAN.

Although rooted in Newark, Mach-Hommy has also spent time in Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince. His earliest project, the 2004 mixtape Goon Grizzle, remained scarcely circulated, yet a steady stream of recordings emerged in the early 2010s, among them the 2013 full-length F.Y.I. He joined Westside Gunn and Conway—both of Buffalo’s Griselda collective—on their 2016 EP Don’t Get Scared Now, and Griselda issued his own H.B.O. (Haitian Body Odor) that year, initially available only through direct contact with the artist before eventually reaching streaming services.

After parting ways with Griselda, Mach-Hommy formed an extensive partnership with Atlanta’s even more prolific Tha God Fahim. He executive-produced Fahim’s 2016 album TGIF, and the pair began issuing material under the Dump Gawd banner, a loose affiliation that also drew in Your Old Droog and Al Divino. In 2017 alone he issued nearly a dozen projects, among them three Dollar Menu installments with Fahim, Dump Gawd: Hommy Edition, Dumpmeister, The G.A.T…, plus EPs alongside Knxwledge and Earl Sweatshirt. The following year brought Bulletproof Luh on the British imprint Bad Taste Records, along with additional joint releases with Fahim. Two 2019 collaborations with DJ Muggs—Tuez-les Tous and Kill Em All—appeared on the Cypress Hill affiliate’s Soul Assassins Records. Nature Sounds then released the EP Wap Kon Jòj!, featuring contributions from Quelle Chris, the Alchemist, and Navy Blue. The 2020 full-length Mach’s Hard Lemonade reunited many of those same voices.

Reuniting with Griselda, Mach-Hommy delivered Pray for Haiti in 2021, executive-produced by Westside Gunn. The album foregrounded Haiti’s cultural and political legacy to a greater degree than prior work, earning widespread acclaim and introducing his music to larger audiences. Later that year he joined Kaytranada for the track “$payforhaiti” before issuing the well-received Balens Cho (Hot Candles). In 2022 he spread four Dump Gawd: Triz EPs across separate producers—Conductor Williams, Sadhugold, Nicholas Craven, and Tha God Fahim—while continuing to record with Fahim on Dollar Menu 4, Duck Czn: Tiger Style, and 2023’s Notorious Dump Legends Vol. 2. Mach-Hommy’s 2024 solo album #RICHAXXHAITIAN arrived with guest appearances from Roc Marciano, 03 Greedo, Black Thought, and Sam Gendel.
