Biography
Mali Velasquez crafts introspective and emotionally charged compositions that draw from folk traditions while incorporating the layered textures of lo-fi indie rock. She relocated from the Texas Panhandle to Nashville, where she captured her first full-length project, I'm Green, issued toward the end of 2023.
Songwriting began for Velasquez during her early teenage years, and she kept refining her intensely personal lyrics throughout her time as a college student in Nashville. Her distinctive singing voice carries an unpolished intensity that complements the earthy resonance of her songs. A short clip of her performing “Bobby,” written after losing her mother, reached Nashville producer Josef Kuhn, prompting him to ask her into his studio to lay down the track. Their shared creative rapport led them to complete enough material for an entire album.
