Marcus Anderson

Born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, in 1985, saxophonist Marcus Anderson completed his studies at North Carolina Central University before entering the circuit as a working musician who backed assorted performers while maintaining his own stage appearances. A video capturing one of his intense solo outings drew the notice of Prince, resulting in Anderson’s appointment as a full-time touring member of the New Power Generation from 2012 to 2016. Alongside that association he also performed with Cee Lo Green and Judith Hill and issued several solo albums. The 2015 release And Coffee offered a set of smooth jazz instrumentals shaped by the relaxed atmosphere of coffee drinking. Its 2016 successor, My Inspiration, shifted toward a more contemplative stance that addressed social concerns and personal reflection.
