Kendall Jane Meade, the singer and guitarist who had previously belonged to Juicy, fronted the indie pop outfit Mascott. Once Juicy dissolved following its 1996 release Olive Juicy, Meade left New York City for her hometown of Detroit to consider her options; within weeks she received an invitation to handle keyboards for Helium’s UK dates and then joined a string of performances supporting Rebecca Gates’ Spinanes. Mascott came together shortly afterward, issuing its first EP, Electric Poems, via Le Grand Magistery in late 1998. Three years after that she put out Follow the Sound, produced by Jim O’Rourke. Early in 2004 Dreamer’s Book appeared on Red Panda, the imprint she established herself.
