Mass Production

Based in Norfolk, Virginia, the funk outfit Mass Production achieved success with twelve R&B singles that charted between 1977 and 1982 on Cotillion. The group's initial roster of ten included LeCoy Bryant, Kevin Douglas, James Drumgole, Agnes "Tiny" Kelly, Larry Marshall, Gregory McCoy, Rodney Phelps, Emmanuel Redding, Ricardo Williams, and Tyrone Williams. Number four on Billboard's R&B chart during the late summer of 1979 marked the peak position for their biggest hit, "Firecracker." After releasing their eighth album, the band called it quits in 1983. Six years afterward, 2 Live Crew issued their major success "Me So Horny," built around an instrumental sample from "Firecracker."
