Biography
Raised in Nashville as the daughter of country songwriter and producer Buddy Cannon, Melonie Cannon came of age directly under the Grand Ole Opry’s imposing presence. Demo sessions occupied her attention throughout her teenage years, and after completing a period of Army service she came back to the city, where bluegrass figures such as Alison Krauss soon captured her interest. Background vocal work followed, encompassing Nashville dates alongside John Michael Montgomery and Kenny Chesney, yet her striking alto lead voice made it inevitable that she would eventually helm her own recordings. Skaggs Family Records issued her self-titled debut album in 2004; Ronnie Bowman produced the project, which merged bluegrass and pop-country elements within an acoustic framework.
