Biography
Vocalist Michelle Wright entered the world in Morpeth, Ontario, and launched her singing pursuits during childhood. Her path mirrored that of her father, who performed with a country & western ensemble, along with her mother, a member of the Reflections across more than ten years. During college she entered a band, then drifted through various combos across the ensuing three years before launching her own ensemble in 1983. Five years alongside that outfit prompted Wright to pursue a solo route, releasing Do Right by Me in Canada. The album earned broad praise and secured her a deal with Arista’s Nashville operation. Her opening Arista project, New Kind of Love, arrived on July 17, 1990. Next came the noticeably more polished Now & Then, which included the hit singles “Take It Like a Man” and “He Would be 16,” the former also reaching number one in Canada. With the arrival of 1996’s For Me It’s You, Wright had become a major star throughout her home country while remaining primarily an object of critical regard inside the U.S. She delivered The Reasons Why in 1997, followed by a greatest-hits package in 2000. In 2003 she resurfaced with the upbeat “Shut Up and Kiss Me.”
