Mike Adams, a Bloomington, Indiana-based singer, songwriter, and cable access talk show host, shapes an inviting realm of richly textured, self-deprecating power pop through his project Mike Adams at His Honest Weight. Drawing from the melodic legacies of Brian Wilson and the Association through Electric Light Orchestra, Teenage Fanclub, and Third-era Big Star, he pairs those touchstones with a command of studio craft that supplies just the right sheen to his songs. His initial breakthrough arrived via the economical yet inventive 2011 album Oscillate Wisely, which received a more refined 10th Anniversary remix treatment in 2021, while Best of Boiler Room Classics in 2015 opened the door to expanded studio exploration. Casino Drone followed in 2016 with a heightened emphasis on meticulous production values, and Guess for Thrills in 2023 paired expansive keyboard-centered arrangements with a more introspective perspective.

Before forming Mike Adams at His Honest Weight, Adams spent nearly ten years leading the Midwestern indie pop group Husband & Wife, whose last performance took place in April 2013. The new endeavor was envisioned primarily as a solo outlet, with Adams composing every track before enlisting a select group of regional players. Oscillate Wisely appeared in early 2011 as a joint release on Flannelgraph and St. Ives Records, establishing the foundational balance between refined pop structures and the unassuming, humorous persona he cultivated on his local television program. He maintained both endeavors in tandem, securing more prominent guests for the show while preparing his next record, Best of Boiler Room Classics in 2014. For Casino Drone in 2016 he moved to the Indianapolis indie label Joyful Noise, performing every instrument himself with Adam Jessup as co-producer. The same partnership continued on There Is No Feeling Better in 2019, when Adams brought in additional instrumentalists and singers to achieve his most refined recording to that point.

The tenth anniversary of his debut was marked in 2021 with a deluxe edition of Oscillate Wisely that paired a remastered original with an entirely new mix of the ten-song album; a limited pressing further included a collection of rare live tracks. Graphic Blandishment in 2022 steered toward a guitar-and-drum-driven rock approach, incorporating more outside contributors while retaining Adams’s melodic core. That energetic direction shifted again on Guess for Thrills in 2023, where he resumed handling nearly every part, allowing the intelligent keyboard-led arrangements to coexist with production choices that embraced found sounds and atmospheric textures.
