Mira, the dream pop quartet based in Tallahassee, Florida, came together in 1996. Its original roster featured singer and songwriter Regina Sosinski together with guitarist Tom Parker, bassist Sam Riles, and drummer Alan Donaldson. The band issued the Something Ventured EP on Tesseract Records shortly after they started performing live. Once Riles exited, Mira rotated through several bassists and guitarists before locking in guitarist Mark Davidson. Recording activity never stopped during those changes, yielding the Dry EP that carried an early rendition of the song “Cayman,” which later surfaced on the Projekt compilation A Cat-Shaped Hole in My Heart. To mark their return to the stage after nearly a year away, the group released a limited-edition EP exclusive to Cowhaus in 1999. Projekt signed Mira soon after Dry appeared, prompting work on the self-titled debut album that reached stores in early 2000. Apart arrived the following fall.
