Biography
New Zealand's Miss June crafts churning indie punk laced with feminist themes, drawing from '90s grunge, noise pop, and the snotty post-punk lineage of Romeo Void while tailoring it to the social-media era. The band issued its punk-focused Matriarchy EP in 2015 and then delivered a more melodic punk-and-noise-pop blend on the full-length debut Bad Luck Party, which surfaced in 2019.
Miss June formed in Auckland when lead singer/guitarist Annabel Liddell, guitarist Jun Cheul "James" Park, bassist Chris Marshall, and drummer Tom Leggett shared the demo "Pixielated (So Curious)" in early 2014. A more urgent approach defined the following year's Matriarchy EP, after which the group released a split single with Dunedin's Astro Children in 2016. The 2018 track "Twitch" introduced more-melodic vocals that reappeared on the band's first album, Bad Luck Party, issued by Frenchkiss Records in 2019.
