Monique Smit

Monique Smit first rose to prominence as a Dutch pop singer and television personality, achieving a Top Five solo breakthrough in 2007 after appearing on multiple reality programs. Recognition came largely through her role as the younger sister of Dutch pop superstar Jan Smit, whose 2005 series Gewoon Jan Smit brought her widespread attention across the Netherlands. Born April 9, 1989, in Volendam, Netherlands, she gained further visibility on the 2007 edition of Just the Two of Us, where she placed second to winner Edwin Evers. Her on-air duets with Xander de Buisonjé helped position her as an emerging vocalist, directly leading to her solo recording debut later that year with the Top Five single “Wild.” In 2008 she followed with the Top Ten album Stel Je Voor, which featured the additional hits “Blijf Je Vanavond,” “Vrouwenalfabet,” and “Stel Je Voor” alongside the earlier track “Wild.”
