Moniquea

Moniquea, an R&B singer and songwriter born in Gary, Indiana like her early influence Deniece Williams, spent her childhood in Pasadena, California. Music filled her environment and shaped her as a performer from an early age, leading to a Rose Bowl appearance at 15. Her self-titled 2011 album mixed classic and contemporary elements on a modest budget. In 2012 she joined rapper/producer XL Middleton on the attitudinal synth funk duet "You Can't Train Me," a track that outshone her solo work in refinement. The year after, she teamed with Middleton and Eddy Funkster on "I Don't Wanna Get Used to It," fully establishing herself as a vocalist whose work with her collaborators refreshed early-'80s post-disco and synth funk for modern listeners. MoFunk then released the single "A Certain Way" and the album Yes No Maybe in 2014.
