Biography
In 2009 the London indie rock outfit My Sad Captains assembled, featuring guitarist and sonic manipulator Nick Goss, vocalist and guitarist Ed Wallis, bassist Dan Davis, and drummer and vocalist Jim Wallis. Their name originated from a line in a Thom Gunn poem, and they developed a hypnotic, pulsing indie rock sound. A handful of early singles preceded the 2009 debut album Here & Elsewhere, which was followed in 2011 by Fight Less Win More. Both releases prompted international tours that included a slot at the South by Southwest festival and shared bills with Califone and Still Corners. Bella Union issued the third album, Best of Times, in 2014. Goss and Jim Wallis exited in a substantial lineup overhaul that preserved the band's sonic identity, after which guitarist Leon Dufficy and drummer Ben Walker came aboard for the 2017 Bella Union album Sun Bridge; by then bassist Dan Davis had moved to California and was succeeded on the road by Steve Blackwell.
