Biography
Mystic Merlin's opening roster as a polished funk/soul outfit included Jerry Anderson on guitar, Betty Brown handling vocals, Clyde Bullard on bass, Leslie Dorsey supplying keyboards and vocals, Keith Gonzalez on vocals, Sly Randolph at the drums, and Barry Strutt covering saxophone and keyboards. Renowned for extravagant live presentations that wove in multiple magic routines, the ensemble delivered three Capitol albums across 1980–1982: the self-titled Mystic Merlin, propelled by the U.K. Top 20 single "Just Can't Give You Up," plus Sixty Thrills a Minute and Full Moon, the latter showcasing vocals from a pre-stardom Freddie Jackson. In 2012 the U.K.'s BBR label remastered and expanded all three titles.
